Most frequently used interior doors that are most exposed to the views and use of everyone who stays in our home are certainly bathroom doors, namely toilet doors. Due to the extremely high frequency of use, it is important to consider the quality of fittings, parts, and materials that make up these doors. These doors depend a lot on the quality of the finish, which must be resistant to scratches and bumps. Their lock must be of unique quality to withstand a high frequency of use.

Due to the expected humidity, many people wonder if all types of doors can be used as bathroom doors, i.e. if there is a difference between bathroom doors and, for example, living room doors. In general, there must be no difference other than in appearance. Nothing special is necessary for the bathroom compared to other rooms. Gone are the days when the door “dragged” moisture.

Types of bathroom doors

There are several types of doors nowadays, such as wooden, made of solid wood, or MDF, PVC or aluminum coated with plastic.

  • PVC plastic, apart from not being durable enough for this type of use, is not ecologically justified, it is not aesthetically pleasing enough, so it is rarely used in interior and room doors manufacture.
  • Solid wooden doors bend over time and due to their weight “move” from the hinges, so from time to time the intervention of a carpenter is needed, as well as regular painting or varnishing.
  • MDF doors are the best solution for all internal needs. They consist of MDF frame and a filling manufactured most often of cardboard honeycomb or extruded plywood.

Even if you opt for simpler variants of cardboard honeycomb, they are so well protected with finishing layers that it is impossible for moisture to get inside, even if the door suffers from direct spraying with water. The solution is in the finishing that is set around and covers this filling.

Sliding or classic bathroom doors

Although it is common for sliding doors to be used in spaces where there is not enough space for a classic opening, they can certainly have an impact on the charm of the room in which they are located. This sliding mechanism is often used for doors in bathrooms that can be entered from the bedroom. This does not disturb the appearance and functionality of the room, and the bathroom gets a lot more space.

This way of mounting and use agrees with a wide range of design solutions. It can be integrated into both rustic and modern designs. It all depends on the choice of material with which the door is finally coated and patterned.

Whichever option, type, and variant you choose, keep the quality in your mind. Doors are not an everyday shopping item and, don’t think you will benefit by saving a few tens of dollars.  Quite the opposite. For more information, contact the ITALdoors team, we are here to help!
